King David Schools in partnership with Discovery Health will be hosting a 5km walk/run within the Johannesburg Zoo followed by a breakfast picnic on the Bandstand lawn. This walk/run is open to all King David students, across all ages, their families, teachers, staff and alumni, provided they are in good health.

07h30 sharp. 5km Run or Walk. Don’t be late. Gates open from 06h00


R50 per person (children under 3 free), Includes parking within the Zoo


Access to the Zoo will only be allowed with an official KD Wild Walk & Run wristband which will be handed out prior to the event at your school or at the Zoo before the walk/run.

Ensure you have a wristband! 

No wristband - No entry.


Bring your own picnic blanket and breakfast picnic basket and spend the morning with us after the walk/run (There will be a secure area on the Bandstand Lawn to lay your blanket and basket while you are walking/running). The rides in the kiddies amusement area will be open exclusively for us from 08h30 – 11h30 at no charge.


Secure, free parking is available at the Zoo for King David Wild Walk & Run entrants. Please park in the new general public parking lot. The entrance is along Upper Park Drive. Free Parking will only be available from 06h00 – 10h30. Thereafter normal parking charges will apply.

Vitality Poiints

Vitality Points: Earn up to 800 Discovery Vitality points for every adult who walks or runs (T’s & C’s apply)

Ensure you check-in at the various Discovery Vitality stands at the Zoo on the day to claim your points.

  1. HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE ENTERED? - Once you have entered on-line at an e-mail will be sent to you confirming your entry.
  2. WHAT WILL I NEED TO ENTER THE JOHANNESBURG ZOO - You will need a branded wristband for security purposes.
  3. HOW WILL PAYMENT WORK - Secure payment by credit card or instant EFT through TicketZone.
  4. HOW DO I COLLECT MY WRISTBAND - Collection of wristbands will be on Thursday 12 March 2020 and Friday 13 March 2020 at dropping off and fetching times at your school. You can also collect your wristbands at the Johannesburg Zoo from 06h00 on Sunday 15 March. Wristbands are essential to enter the zoo. No wristband, No entry. 
  5. WILL I BE REFUNDED IN THE EVENT OF RAIN - No. Unfortunately not.

  6. CAN WE ENTER ON THE DAY - Not at this point. Entries will only be accepted via the on-line entry system.
  7. WILL THE EVENT BE SAFE - The CSO will be ensuring the safety of all participants within the confines of the Johannesburg Zoo. The route itself will be well signposted and marshalled. There will be medical facilities available should the need arise. All Emergency Services as well as the Police services have been notified of the event.
  8. WHEN DO ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE - Wednesday 11 March 2020. No late entries will be accepted and no refunds will be given.
  9. CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONE PERSON - Yes. You can enter up to 9 people on one entry submission. Please ensure that the correct details are entered per entrant.
  10. HOW DO I REDEEM MY DISCOVERY VITALITY POINTS - Each adult over 18 who walks or runs will receive up to 800 Discovery Vitality points. Please ensure that you check-in at any of the Discovery Vitality stands within the Zoo on the day in order to ensure that you are recorded as being at the event. After the walk/run, a list will be submitted by the event organisers of attendees on the day and Discovery will issue the points. This can take up to 6 weeks. T&C's apply*

  12. WILL THERE BE WATER POINTS ALONG THE ROUTE - Yes, there will be a water point and water will be handed out to all walkers/runners. Coldrinks, coffee and food will be available to purchase in the bandstand area.
  13. WILL THERE BE FOOD TO PURCHASE - Yes, there will be Kosher food to purchase in the bandstand area as well as in the Zoo itself.
  14. CAN WE BRING OUR OWN FOOD - Yes, you are welcome to bring your own picnic baskets and drinks. All picnic baskets must be tagged with the allocated security band for safety. The security bands will be handed out on the day of the event from 06h00. No braais are allowed in the Zoo.
